Dr. Sofia K. Gkarane holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Macedonia and has completed post-doctoral research focusing on cultural heritage, tourism seasonality and sustainable tourism development in Greece. 

Her main research area is tourism marketing, with particular emphasis on destination promotion, sustainable tourism strategies, sport tourism, and the role of events in regional tourism development.
She currently teaches courses related to tourism and marketing at the International Hellenic University, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to tourism and business administration. 

Her academic work includes research publications, book chapters and international conference contributions in the fields of tourism marketing, destination development, and sustainability.
Dr. Gkarane is actively involved in European funded research projects, particularly within the Erasmus+ framework, as well as other EU initiatives related to tourism education, sustainability and university–business cooperation. 

Through these projects she has participated in research, training programmes, and international capacity-building activities connected with tourism workforce development and higher education innovation.
