Seyyed Mohammad Taqi Shariyat-Panahi

Seyyed Mohammad Taqi Shariyat-Panahi was born in Tehran, Iran. He studied History at the University of Tabriz and completed his postgraduate studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received his PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Between 2012 and 2015, he conducted postdoctoral research on the economic and social history of Corinthia during the Ottoman period (15th–18th centuries). He worked as a historian-researcher at the Foundation of the Hellenic World (1997–2012) and collaborated for several years with the Benaki Museum of Islamic Art as well as the Benaki Museum Archives.
He taught Ottoman paleography and diplomatics at the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece, as well as in the postgraduate program of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
His research interests include the economic and social history of the Middle East, particularly the Ottoman Empire, Islamic art, and mysticism in Islam. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology at the University of Thessaly.
